San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, is a popular tourist destination, an economic hub for Tzeltal and Tzotzil Maya people — and a thriving market in illicit pornography often victimizing underage indigenous girls from the poorest sectors of society.
A local women’s group is now struggling to publicize the issue, identify and rescue the victims, some as young as 8, and help bring the producers and consumers to justice.
The latter, it appears, are not deterred by potential 20-year prison sentences, and include foreigners as well as locals.
