Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls advocacy group, threw her hat into the ring for the 2019 presidential elections in Nigeria.
She will run as the candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria.
In a speech last week, Ezekwesili said that the government “promised to keep Nigerians safe and secure. But crime, violent conflicts and insurgency are on the rise.”
She noted that her approach to security would include military and economic interventions, crime prevention, and “a climate and sustainable development intervention.”
Ezekwesili used the social media campaign #BringBackOurGirls to shine a light on those abducted by terrorists from Nigeria’s northeast region.
She has said her campaign slogan will be “Project Rescue Nigeria.”
