Kenyan film misses Oscar nomination, gains recognition

As previously reported in The Daylighter, “Rafiki,” a banned Kenyan film featuring a lesbian love story, was allowed to be shown for one week so that it could be submitted for Oscar consideration.

However, it did not win the nomination.

Nonetheless, the film was shown to sold-out crowds in the few theaters that screened it.

The Kenya Film Classification Board had banned the film for promoting lesbianism.
